A Nod to the Country

Cottage garden planting and rustic elements give this urban garden a country feel.

Before

The Design

The owners had recently moved from a rural lifestyle block to their new urban home. They wanted to retain a connection to their country lifestyle while incorporating more colour into their monochromatic surroundings.

To give a nod to country fences, we created a row of timber posts which will silver off beautifully over time and bring warmth to the garden.  We installed a large round corten planter that breaks up the boxy rectangle and is reminiscent of rusty farm equipment.

For the planting, the owners wanted a relaxed, colourful cottage garden so we selected lots of colourful perennials in soft relaxing hues of pink, lilacs, blue and purple.

Finally, the addition of a water feature adds a touch of serenity to the garden and helps to attract birdlife.
