We design detailed plans for gardens of all shapes and sizes, however, we specialise in designing in small spaces.

Our design process starts with a free, no-obligation consultation where we discuss your ideas and visions to establish the best form, function, and style for your space.

We design gardens & plantscapes for residential and commercial properties.

The Process

The complete design process usually lasts between 2 to 5 weeks, depending on the size and complexity of your project.

During this time we take you through 4 key stages of the design process.

Here's is a summary of what you can expect and what is included with our design fee and service..

Stage 1

Consultation & Site Assessment

  • A 60 min consultation to discuss your design direction and to get an understanding of your preferences around aesthetic style, theme, plant scheme etc.

  • After this chat, we can determine the complexities of the project and can provide you with a quote to prepare your designs. You can take some time to consider this or you may decide on the day, however there is no obligation to progress forward with our service.

  • Once you are happy to proceed we will then undertake a complete site
assessment. This includes a detailed site measure up including pictures taken, environmental aspect recorded (sun direction, wind issues etc) and soil quality checked (if applicable)

Stage 2

Draft Plans

We then go away and start preparing your draft plans, generally over a 2-5 week period, depending on what is required.

  • This includes digital "mood boards" to capture the design direction, based on the feedback you provided during our first consultation.

  • A 2D plan with suggested plants list, 3D images and a 3D video are all included as part of our design service to help you visualise your space

Stage 3

Draft Plans Consultation

  • This includes the time taken to present the plans to you in detail, however long this takes on the day. Sometimes there is a need for a face to face presentation and then a further discussion over email/phone, depending on whether we need to get some input or clarity around your preferred direction.

  • Any changes can be suggested at these discussions and they will be included in the final plan

  • It is at this stage that we provide you with a quote to complete the installation work, which is clearly broken down into a summary of what City Botanics will be managing and whether any other contractors are required to complete other aspects of the installation

Stage 4

Final Plans

  • Once all changes have been discussed and finalised, we then begin working on your final plans

  • This takes approx 1-2 weeks to complete, at which point we will provide you with a link to download your digital files.

  • Once you have decided to proceed with the installation, we will then work with you to schedule this in

Vibrant Tropical Courtyard, 28 sqm

Noz, Auckland

"What a transformation! City Botanics have converted what was a pretty depressing space into something I very much enjoy spending time in.

I'll admit I was a bit dubious about what could be achieved in such a small area but it just goes to show what can happen when you trust in those who are passionate about what they do.

Martin was fantastic to deal with; innovation came to the fore when we had to do design consultations via video conference as a result of the lockdown. Importantly, the level of communication throughout the project was outstanding.

If there's anyone out there considering re-modelling their space, get in touch with these lads. I'm now a lifelong fan!"

Contemporay Balcony, 10 sqm

Sally, Auckland

"I am absolutely blown away how Martin from City Botanics managed to create a whole new and beautiful space in such a small amount of room. It feels like it’s added another room to my one bedroom house

I have two indoor cats too which I wanted to give a safe place to sit safely and people watch on the balcony; Martin listened and created the area with the crates for just that.

Martin’s professionalism, experience and ability to decipher what I liked and wanted in my home was spot on and produced a final product that I absolutely love and was within my budget.

I couldn’t recommend City Botanics enough!"
