Tiny Inner City Balcony

What can you achieve with a 7.8 square meter balcony? Quite a lot actually!

Before

The Design

This balcony was installed just before lock-down and at its narrowest point, measured only 50cm wide. The furniture pieces were existing, so we had to work them into the design and allow for enough room around the 2 seater table for functionality.

The clients were not big fans of the metallic olive green wall which separates one balcony from the next, so we used camellia's as a formal hedge to soften the space and distract from the wall. The camellias worked well for the balcony aspect, which is part sun in Winter and full shade in Summer and they will provide beautiful seasonal interest (Apr-Jun) with their sweetly scented white and pink flowers.

The vibrant green Lomada "Lime Tuff" is a small growing grass that will do well in the narrow long patio pots. Measuring only 20cm wide, they fit perfectly in the narrow space. The brilliant bright foliage lifts the industrial themed balcony and the upright form and texture of the grass complements and yet softens the concrete and glass balcony balustrade.
